The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) announced this week that its directors have elected long-time realtor Sandra Wyant as its new president.

Wyant followed the traditional path for REBGV presidents, which is to be elected as a vice-president, then as a president-elect and then finally to be elected president.

"It's a three-year process, so we have a lot of experience before we get to this point," Wyant told Business in Vancouver March 19. "You still have to be elected by the board of directors."

Wyant's roots in the industry go deep given that her father was a real-estate agent and two brothers still are.

"I'm passionate about what we do and about making sure that there's value in it for the consumers," she said.

She is the fourth woman to lead the 94-year-old organization and her term is for one year.

Her role is to create the strategic direction for the organization and be its public face.

Licensed in 1991, Wyant was elected to the board in 2005 as the chair for the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows division of REBGV and she served two two-year terms. She was then elected as a director at large in 2009.
