Thomas W. Clifford has joined the Vancouver office of MLT Aikins LLP as an associate. Clifford practises commercial litigation, estate litigation, contractual, strata and construction disputes and personal injury.
Melanie Teetaert rejoins Stikeman Elliott as a partner in the firm’s litigation group. Teetaert’s focus includes joint ventures, joint operating agreements, farm-out agreements and transportation and handling agreements. She has acted as counsel in both international and commercial arbitrations and has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and British Columbia. Teetaert was previously a partner with Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer in Calgary.

Vijay Bathija has been appointed to Canada Jetlines Ltd.’s advisory board. Bathija has more than 20 years of aviation industry experience with low-cost startups, network carriers and Canadian airport management. Bathija was most recently president and CEO of John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport and, prior to that, spent nine years with Air Canada in progressively senior roles from senior director of network planning to vice-president, commercial, for Air Canada Leisure Group, which includes Air Canada Vacations and Air Canada Rouge.
Gong (Michael) Chen has resigned as a director of Credent Capital Corp. due to other commitments that preclude him from continuing as a director of the company.

Paul G. Anderson has been appointed president and COO of Abacus Mining and Exploration Corp. Michael McInnis has resigned as chairman, president and CEO of the company and is now executive chairman. McInnis will continue to be involved in Abacus’ core operating and strategic processes including financing and market strategies and communication. Anderson will manage all day-to-day operations of the company and participate in financing and marketing efforts.
Marc Leduc, previously NewCastle Gold Ltd.’s chief operating officer, has been appointed interim president and CEO at the company. Gerald Panneton has resigned from his position of president, CEO and director.
Ryan Weymark, project director, IDM Mining Ltd., has been promoted to vice-president, project development. Weymark will be responsible for ongoing pre-development engineering, through potential construction and production at the Red Mountain underground gold project, 15 kilometres east of Stewart, B.C. Weymark joined IDM in the spring of 2017; he was previously a project manager with Ledcor Contractors Ltd., and, prior to that, worked as a mining engineer, project manager and short- and long-range planning engineer with Teck Resources Ltd. He is a third-generation miner and engineer.
John E. Young has been appointed senior corporate development officer at Standard Lithium Ltd. and will be managing and expanding strategic partnerships and alliances, and spearheading Standard Lithium’s acquisition and development activities, principally in the southern U.S. Young is a registered professional engineer with more than 35 years of experience in reservoir engineering, economic evaluations, property acquisitions and project development. Prior to his appointment, Young served as director of business development for Legacy Reserves LP.

New name/merger
GradusOne, a Vancouver-based non-profit focused on building business acumen and skills for people under 25 years of age, has merged with League of Innovators (LOI). Through the merger, GradusOne will donate its assets and staff to LOI, while GradusOne founder Manny Padda will join the board of directors. Bill Millerd, artistic managing director of the Arts Club Theatre Co. for the past 46 years, was recently named the Canadian Theatre Critics Association’s2017 recipient of theHerbert Whittaker Award for distinguished contribution to Canadian theatre. During his time with the company, Millerd expanded its operations to include year-round programming and regional and national tours, and also oversaw the construction of four theatres: the Granville Island Stage in 1979, the Revue Stage in 1983, the reopening of the historic Stanley Theatre (now the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage) in 1998 and the Goldcorp Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre in 2015. In celebration of his final season with Arts Club, the Bill Millerd Artist Fund has been created, and it seeks to provide artists of all kinds – costume designers, directors, actors, playwrights, stage managers, etc. – with a scholarship to further their skills. From now until November 30, each donation to the fund will be matched by the Department of Canadian Heritage.
Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and the Canadian Paralympic Committee donated $27,693 to the Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association (CTRA) through the 2017 Parasport Jumpstart Fund. The funds will help the CTRA expand and enhance its services, including specialized coaches and new equipment for the adapted equestrian vaulting program.
North Shore Schizophrenia Society’s (NSSS) annual fundraiser, Circle of Strength, raised $16,500 for the society. The luncheon took place at Hollyburn Country Club and wassponsored by Dignity Memorial and First Memorial Funeral Services. The NSSS, which will be changing its name in 2018 to Pathways Serious Mental Illness Society, provides services to residents of the North Shore, Tri-Cities and the Sea-to-Sky corridor up to and including Pemberton. •
