A $125 million wind-energy project near Tumbler Ridge in northeastern B.C. has been given the green light.
Finavera Wind Energy Inc. (TSX-V:FVR) has been granted an environmental assessment certificate by the provincial government for Tumbler Ridge Wind Energy Project.
The project will include up to 33 wind-turbine generators, which will produce up to 49.6 megawatts of wind energy – enough to provide electricity for 18,000 homes, according to the B.C. government.
The project also includes a road-building initiative, with 19 kilometres of access and connector roads to be built or upgraded, as well as 100 metres of new transmission line to connect the wind farm to the BC Hydro grid.
The project involves the participation of the McLeod Lake Indian Band, which will share the benefits of a number of wind projects in the Peace region of B.C. (See “Finavera Wind lands partnership with B.C. First Nation” – BIV Business Today, August 23, 2011.)
In addition to the Tumbler Ridge project, Finavera also environmental assessment applications in for a proposed 38-turbine wind farm near Chetwynd, B.C.
