The B.C. government has told Kinder Morgan it wants more details about the oil company’s response plans in the event of a spill along the Trans Mountain pipeline’s proposed expansion.
The Ministry of Environment announced May 12 it submitted more than 70 information requests to Kinder Morgan regarding the expansion project.
B.C. Environment Minister Mary Polak said in a statement "we are asking the company to provide more detail than is contained in their application.”
Kinder Morgan submitted its application to the National Energy Board in December 2013.
In addition to more information on oil-spill responses, Victoria is also asking Kinder Morgan for further details on tanker requirements, capacity and standards, personnel and training.
Kinder Morgan plans to spend $5.4 billion to increase the capacity of the pipeline — which runs from northern Alberta to the Westridge Terminals in Burnaby — from 300,000 to 890,000 barrels per day.
