BC Hydro says its planning to conduct burning at the Site C project, once suitable venting and ground condition are met.

Crews have been clearing waste wood from the project, a release stated, and burning is expected to take place now through March in the Portage Mountain Quarry area and along the north and south bank of the Peace River between the Site C dam site and Peace Canyon Dam

“The public may encounter increased smoke and lower visibility while burning and wood disposal takes place. The Site C project plans and monitors burning carefully, including the timing, size and location of the wood piles, and the smoke being emitted,” adds the notice.

Burning activities can only take place during custom venting windows authorized under provincial regulations, specific to Site C.

If residents see an uncontrolled fire or forest fire, they should immediately contact the BC Wildfire Service at 1 800 663-5555 or *5555 on a cell phone.
