British Columbia's wood exports to China have broken the record set in 2011.

The value of softwood lumber exports reached $1.17 billion at the end of October 2013, surpassing the $1.1 billion value exports hit in 2011, according to the B.C. government.

Higher lumber prices as well as an increase in export volumes helped nudge the dollar value upward.

In November, several announcements involving Chinese investments in B.C. forestry companies were made, coinciding with Premier Christy Clark's trade trip to Asia.

On November 24, Burnaby's Bluestar International Business signed an US$80 million agreement with China's Sichuan Xilin IM/EX Co. Ltd. to provide British Columbian lumber for infrastructure projects in China.

On November 26, Canfor (TSX:CFP) announced it would partner with Tangshan Caofeidian Wood Industry Co. Ltd. to build a wood manufacturing plant in China.
