Burnaby’s Bluestar International Business has signed an US$80 million agreement with China’s Sichuan Xilin IM/EX Co. Ltd. to provide British Columbian lumber for infrastructure projects in China, the provincial government announced November 24.
The agreement is for the export of B.C. processed lumber to be used in residential construction and railway projects in China’s Sichuan province.
“As a British Columbia company with operations in China, we are very excited to sign this agreement to purchase lumber from mills in B.C.,” said William Qu, president of Bluestar International Business.
“As the sole buyer for this deal, we can work with the forest product companies in B.C. to ensure this lumber reaches China and grows the market for B.C. wood.”
The announcement of the deal was made as Premier Christy Clark and Minister Teresa Wat were touring China as part of the BC Jobs and Trade Mission in Asia, which kicked off November 21.
