Former Liberal Party of Canada interim leader Bob Rae is the new chairman of a First Nations consortium executing a large-scale pipeline project in northwest B.C.

Rae will lead the FN (PTP) Group Ltd. Partnership (FNLP), a group made up of 15 First Nations communities.

Earlier this year, FNLP signed a $200 million commercial agreement with the Pacific Trail Pipelines Ltd. Partnership, which will build a pipeline to transport natural gas to the proposed Kitimat LNG project.

The pipeline will travel from Summit Lake to Kitimat, a route that crosses the land of each of the communities in the FNLP.

“I am honoured to have been asked to assist in this process,” said Rae. “FNLP is an innovative model for how industry, governments and First Nations can cooperate effectively with respect to major economic development projects.”
