Forest fires in the James Bay region of Quebec yesterday forced the evacuation of Vancouver-based Goldcorp’s (TSX:G) Éléonore project.
All construction at Éléonore has been stopped.
According to a Goldcorp press release, a fire located 100 kilometres from Éléonore yesterday was advancing on the site.
A crew of Goldcorp employees remains on scene co-ordinating emergency procedures.
Éléonore is considered a “significant” Goldcorp project, estimated to produce 600,000 ounces of gold per year. Production is expected to begin in late 2014.
