Steve Thomson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources, has lauded timber firm Structurlam after touring the company’s expanded plant in Okanagan Falls August 13.

Structurlam manufactures cross-laminated timber panels, which are glue-laminated beams that can be used as an alternative to concrete in commercial construction.

According to a government press release, Structurlam is one of only two companies in Canada to manufacture such a product.

Structurlam opened its 10,000-square foot expanded production plant in May.

The company employs 150 people in Penticton, Okanagan Falls and Oliver.

The provincial government launched its Wood First Initiative in 2009, a program designed to promote B.C. wood use in commercial construction.

“Structurlam is a world-class manufacturer and technical innovator,” said Thomson.

“Their leading-edge products and manufacturing processes are changing the way the world thinks about building with wood, while helping ensure long-term employment for Okanagan workers and their families.”
