According to the latest Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey data, the gap in unemployment has narrowed between high school graduates and those with university degrees so far this year.

Unemployment for those with a bachelor's degree has edged up to 5.7% from 5.4% in 2011. B.C. residents with a master's degree have also seen an increase in unemployment to nearly 5% from 4.2%. The differences are relatively slight, however, and are contrasted by decreasing unemployment to 7.3% from 8% for those with only a high school degree.

The narrowing unemployment gap in B.C. contrasts the fairly steady 4% difference nationally in unemployment rates between high school graduates and those with a master's or PhD degree. •
