Production of both gold and copper at New Gold’s (TSX:NGD) New Afton mine in Kamloops, B.C. increased in the third quarter of 2013, the company has announced.
More than 25,000 ounces of gold was produced at New Afton in the third quarter, an 80% increase over the 14,014 ounces produced in the same period last year.
Copper production reached 20.9 million pounds in the third quarter, an 88% increase from 11.1 million pounds produced in the third quarter of 2012.
The spike in production is the result of an overall increase in throughput at the mine. In September, New Afton averaged a throughput of 12,396 tonnes per day, a 13% increase over the mine’s original design capacity of 11,000 tonnes per day.
New gold will release its complete third quarter financial results on Oct. 29, according to a company press release.
