The Daily Oil Bulletin has produced an interactive infographic that explains the major players, well results, land spending and many other facets of the Duvernay land in Alberta.
The Duvernay has attracted some of the world's biggest oil and gas companies – including Talisman Energy, Chevron and Exxon Mobil – who are betting on the shale gas play to pay off in a big way
The region covers over 100,000 square kilometers along the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, and it is not only focused on gas, like British Columbia's Horn River Basin, but instead offers a full spectrum, including dry gas, liquids-rich gas and oil.
On June 1, 2011, the Duvernay drove Alberta's largest-ever single land sale, worth $843 million. Drilling is underway, and investors in the region are waging on the area to become one of North America's biggest plays.
What this means for British Columbia is there exists the massive potential for natural gas produced in the region to be sent via pipeline to the coast to be liquefied and then sent to Asia.
