The province’s wood products makers expect to see $48 million in sales in three days at the annual Global Buyers Mission event.
The trade show will take place in Whistler from September 5 to 7 and will host 240 buyers from 22 countries. Three-quarters of the buyers will be from Asian markets, such as Japan, South Korea, China and India, as well as emerging Asian markets like the Philippines and Malaysia.
“We’re particularly pleased to see buyers representing newly-emerging Asian countries coming to GBM in increasing numbers every year,” said Brian Hawrysh, CEO of BC Wood, the trade association that represents the province’s manufactured wood businesses.
The first global buyers event was held in 2004 and saw $4 million in sales. Buyers are pre-qualified and attend the event by invitation only.
