Energy giant Kinder Morgan has released a detailed preliminary route for its planned twinning of the Trans Mountain pipeline.

On the website talk.transmountain.com, every community along the pipeline route – from Valemount to Burnaby and other rural B.C. areas – is able to view Kinder Morgan's proposed path.

The release of the preliminary route comes on the heels of a second shutdown of the Trans Mountain pipeline this month after a small leak was found yesterday 40 kilometers east of Hope.

Kinder Morgan spokesman Andy Galarnyk told Business in Vancouver that cleanup crews are still at the scene of the spill.

Galarnyk said no information on how much oil was lost is yet available, but an update from Kinder Morgan is expected today.

Both the National Energy Board and the National Transportation Safety Board have been alerted to the leak.

The leak follows hard on the heels of a leak on June 12, near Merritt. In that incident, 12 barrels of oil were spilt, prompting the pipeline to be closed for two days.

The company will also be hosting an open house today in Burnaby to discuss the pipeline route. The open house starts at 4:30 p.m. and will be held at The Executive Inn at 4201 Lougheed Highway.
