Enbridge Inc. has purchased a 64-hectare site at Grassy Point on the northwest coast of British Columbia near Prince Rupert for possible future LNG opportunities, said a company spokesman.

The acquisition is not related to the Northern Gateway project, Graham White said in an email.

The parcel is adjacent to larger parcels of land where Australia’s Woodside Petroleum Ltd. and Nexen Inc., owned by China National Offshore Oil Corp., have signed purchase agreements with the British Columbia government for Crown lands.

Last fall at Enbridge’s investor day, company officials said they were pursuing an industry solution to work with producers in the export of LNG from Western Canada and believe there will be a consolidation of the numerous projects that have been proposed.
