Just two months after announcing the recovery of a 9.46-carat rare blue diamond from its Karowe mine in Botswana, Vancouver-based Lucara Diamond Corp. (TSX:LUC) says it has found two additional blue diamonds.
The company this morning announced that it has recovered one 4.77-carat blue diamond and one 0.2-carat blue diamond from its Karowe mine.
That follows on the heels of the company’s November announcement of the recovery of two blue diamonds, weighing 9.46 and 0.64 carats. The diamonds sold at auction for $4,515,000 and $24,500, respectively.
William Lamb, CEO of Lucara, welcomed the news of the latest blue diamond finds.
“The recovery of the 4.77 carat blue diamond brings the total number of blue diamonds recovered in the past few months to four,” he said. “The recurring recovery of these exceptionally rare and sought-after stones is highly significant and confirms the quality of the diamonds produced from the Karowe mine.”
Lamb recently spoke to Business in Vancouver about the rarity of the first 9.46-carat blue diamond find, saying that he didn’t expect to find any more any time soon.
“No stone of that quality and colour has been recovered in the prior half a billion carats recovered by all the mines on the planet,” he said.
