Vancouver-based Lucara Diamond Corp. (TSX:LUC) has announced that, amidst a diamond sale this week, it sold a 9.46-carat blue diamond for $4,515,000 or $477,272 per carat.

Earlier this month, Lucara announced the recovery of the diamond at its Karowe mine in Botswana.

This week, Lucara announced the results of a sale of 52 lots containing 56,982 carats of diamonds. The company stated that all lots were sold, for an average price of $300 per carat, yielding gross proceeds of $17.14 million.

The company noted that aside from the large blue diamond, it also sold a small blue diamond weighing 0.64 carats for $24,500.

Lucara president and CEO William Lamb called the sale proceeds “a fantastic result” for the company.

“The value received for the exceptionally rare blue diamond has added significantly to the sale,” he said. “The occurrence of two blue diamonds sold confirm the excellent quality of the resource at Karowe.”
