Karina Brino was among the 21 B.C. executives to make the Women’s Executive Network’s top 100 most powerful women in Canada list in 2016.

Karina Brino, president and CEO of the Mining Association of BC (MABC), is resigning from the association to take a job in her land of birth: Chile.

Brino, who was profiled by Business in Vancouver in 2014, has taken a job with a Canadian mining company operating in Chile, where she was born and raised until the age of 14, when her parents moved to Canada.

Brino has worked as the president and CEO of the MABC since 2011. Although she will be working in Chile, she will keep one foot in B.C.

“The job is there, so I’ll be back and forth,” she told BIV. “Canada is home as well, so I don’t want to say that I’m moving back to Chile forever. The job is in Chile, but my family remains here.”

Brino said she will be working for a publicly traded Canadian company with an operating copper mine in Chile.

“I’m going to be working at site, so it’s operation position for me," she said.

The MABC says it will be appointing a new CEO “shortly.”
