A miner has been killed in an industrial accident at a Goldcorp (TSX:G) mine in northern Ontario.
A scoop operator at the Musselwhite mine was excavating underground Wednesday when an “unexpected fall-of-rock” incident occurred, the Vancouver-based company announced November 26.
First responders searched for the miner but found the worker’s loading machine was completely covered by rock.
Goldcorp did not release any details about the scoop operator and the company did not immediately respond to an interview request from Business in Vancouver.
The company has closed down operations at the mine until authorities complete an investigation into the fatal accident.
“We are fully co-operating with the ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the accident, and are offering support to the individual's family and employees at the mine site," Goldcorp CEO Chuck Jeannes said in a statement.
