The Association of Mineral Exploration (AME) has put out a call to mining and exploration companies to donate supplies, equipment and personnel to help out with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Essential supplies and personnel are needed to create and operate temporary facilities for testing, triage, housing and isolation area for vulnerable populations," the AME says. "As mineral explorers, we have access to the supplies needed and we are in a unique position to help."

The AME is asking its members to donate soft- and hard-shell insulated structures, camp gear, medical supplies and staff, including paramedics, registered nurses, caterers and housekeepers.

The call went out Tuesday, and there have already been 21 responses by Wednesday afternoon, said AME president Kendra Johnston.

"It's mostly camp supplies," Johnston said. "Tents, lighting for tents, heaters for tents, fridges, stoves to set up kitchens, and then cooks and medics and people to help run the camps.

"It's primarily for temporary housing facilities for isolation purposes or vulnerable populations."

Companies that are willing and able to donate can fill out forms online.
