The Mining Association of BC (MABC) announced yesterday that MABC executive member Jim O’Rourke, the CEO of Copper Mountain Mining Corporation, will be inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame on January 10, 2013.

Karina Briño, MABC president and CEO, said O’Rourke has had an exemplary career, which has spanned nearly five decades, and has been strongly committed to forging community partnerships where he operates.

“Jim O’Rourke has been instrumental in the development and success of a number of high-profile mines around the province, resulting in the creation of hundreds of jobs in B.C. communities,” said Briño. “Jim is also recognized as an innovative leader through his creation of strong partnerships with Pacific Rim nations as part of the Pacific Gateway initiative.”

In addition to his professional work, O’Rourke was the founder of BC Children’s Hospital’s Mining for Miracles Campaign, which has raised more than $20 million over the last 25 years.

Mike Ranallo, chair and vice-president of the Mining Suppliers Association of British Columbia (MSABC), said, “Jim has been an outstanding leader in promoting the B.C. mining industry and has been an active supporter of the work of MSABC and other mining associations.”

O’Rourke was the recipient of the Order of British Columbia in 2011.
