Minister of Natural Gas Development Rich Coleman has completed a tour of six proposed LNG sites and nearby communities in northern British Columbia, the provincial government announced September 5.
Coleman met with local business, government and First Nations representatives to hear their concerns and interests in the LNG industry.
“Seeing first-hand some of the proposed LNG sites, and speaking with representatives from industry and local communities, reinforces my confidence that building LNG is the best thing we can do for B.C.,” Coleman said.
In addition to the six sites, Coleman also toured a 300-person work camp as well as remediation work industrial sites and existing port facilities.
The province currently has more than 10 proposed LNG projects. Three of these have received approved export licences from the National Energy Board.
The B.C. government said it anticipates more than 39,000 annual jobs will be created over a nine-year construction period, as well as 75,000 permanent jobs once the projects are fully operational.
