Novagold COO to step down

Novagold Resources Inc. (TSX: NG) (NYSE MKT: NG) announced yesterday that its senior vice-president and chief operating officer will be retiring at the end of November.

Gillyeard Leathley joined the company in 2010 as a senior advisor to the president and became senior vice-president and chief operating officer later that year. He joined the board of directors in early 2012.

“Gil has been instrumental in advancing our flagship mining projects, Donlin Gold and Galore Creek, and executing on the divestiture of non-core assets as part of the reorganization of the company,” said Novagold’s president and chief executive officer Gregory A. Lang. “He has been an integral part of our team, which benefitted from his extensive technical and operating experience and guidance.”

With over 50 years’ experience in the mining industry, Leathley has been involved with and served on the boards for several companies in the mining industry, including Prime Resources Group Inc., Golden Peaks Resources Ltd., Lariat Energy Ltd. and Tasman Metals Ltd.

Leathley will continue to serve as a senior advisor to the president and chief executive officer, and as a director to both Novagold and Donlin Gold LLC.
