Resource officials from B.C. and Alberta will be forming a new working group aimed at expanding oil, natural gas and resource exports, B.C. Premier Christy Clark and Alberta Premier Alison Redford announced July 26.

“Our two provinces have a common interest in the responsible development and export of our energy resources,” Clark said in a press release. “It’s critically important to work together to create jobs and strengthen the economy of our provinces, and Canada.”

Clark and Redford haven’t always agreed on resources projects. In May, B.C. officially opposed Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline, citing environmental concerns.

The four-person group will consist of two people from B.C.’s Ministry of Natural Gas Development and two people from Alberta’s Department of Energy.

B.C. LNG’s industry has been active of late. On July 24, former Liberal Party of Canada interim leader Bob Rae was appointed chairman of a First Nations group implementing a pipeline from Summit Lake to Kitimat.

On July 24, Woodfibre Natural Gas Ltd. applied for an export licence to the National Energy Board (NEB). So far, the NEB has granted three export licences to B.C. LNG projects.
