Richmond-based Albion Fisheries has joined several other North American seafood suppliers in a sustainable fisheries coalition.

The coalition, Sea Pact, will contribute funds to help improve the environmental sustainability of fishing and fish farms. The members plan to use their combined purchasing power to effect change in the aquaculture industry and sponsor improvement projects that might not otherwise happen.

Along with Albion, Sea Pact is made up of:

  • Santa Monica Seafood;
  • Seattle Fish Co.;
  • Seacore Seafood;
  • Fortune Fish & Gourmet; and
  • Ipswich Shellfish Group.

“I am positive that, together, our geographically diverse international membership can create an industry-driven difference to the fishing and aquaculture practices and systems that we source from,” said Guy Dean, chief sustainability officer at Albion Fisheries Ltd.

The group received fiscal sponsorship from the New Venture Fund and sustainability advice from FishWise and Sustainable Fisheries Partnership.
