Vancouver’s Silver Wheaton (TSX:SLW) has officially changed its name to Wheaton Precious Metals Corp., the company announced May 10.

The company had announced its intentions to do so March 22, saying the change was needed because half of its revenue now comes from gold.

"Changing our name to Wheaton Precious Metals marks our evolution from a pure silver streaming company to a diversified precious metals streaming company,” company president Randy Smallwood said.

“Starting in 2013, the opportunities have been more focused on gold, and thus, our portfolio is now relatively balanced between silver and gold.”

Wheaton Precious Metals said its website will change from silverwheaton.com, to wheatonpm.com on May 16. Around that time, its trading symbol on the TSX will change to WPM.

The company is the fifth largest mining company in B.C., as ranked by 2016 revenue.
