With pandemic measures making environmental assessment work harder, B.C.’s Environmental Office (EAO) April 28 extended the assessment period for the proposed Tilbury LNG plant to July 26.
It’s the second extension afforded the project on Delta’s Tilbury Island after an initial 90-day extension.
Initially, the early engagement process for the proposed $3-billion expansion of the Tilbury Island LNG plant, which had just entered the review process at the start of March was delayed by 90 days.
“During this second 30-day extension, FortisBC, the EAO and the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada will continue to assess the impact of the COVID-19 situation on the early engagement phase of the environmental assessment,” the EAO said.
Should phase two be approved and proceed, it would bring the Tilbury Island plant’s capacity up to 3.5 million tonnes per annum.
