TransCanada Corp. (TSX:TRP)(NYSE:TRP) announced August 6 that its wholly owned subsidiary, NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd., will proceed with a $1.5 billion extension of a pipeline in northeast B.C.
NOVA has signed agreements with Progress Energy Canada Ltd. (PEC) for approximately two billion cubic feet per day of gas transportation services to underpin the pipeline’s development, TransCanada noted in a release.
The company added that the proposed North Montney main pipeline system will be an extension from the existing Groundbirch main pipeline section of NOVA’s system in northeast B.C.
The project is set to connect to TransCanada's proposed Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project to provide natural gas supply to the proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG export facility near Prince Rupert, B.C.
This is the second time in two weeks that Calgary-based TransCanada has announced a major infrastructure project.
Last week, the company vowed to push ahead with a major oil pipeline linking Alberta’s oil sands with refineries and export terminals in Eastern Canada.
That project, dubbed the Energy East pipeline, would deliver approximately 850,000 barrels of crude each day from Western Canada to Quebec and New Brunswick for refining and export.
