Two mining workers have died in Mexico following an accident at a property owned by Vancouver’s Avino Silver and Gold Mines.
The contractors, who perished Saturday (March 5), were hired to work at the San Gonzalo mine in Mexico’s Durango state, the company said in a March 7 statement.
Avino did not release further details about the accident and did not respond to interview requests from Business In Vancouver.
"Avino does not expect the accident to affect production from the San Gonzalo Mine," CEO David Wolfin said in a statement.
The junior miner said in a press release it was supporting Mexican authorities’ investigation of the accident and it expects a report later this week.
Avino's property in Durango is in an area known for its silver production.
The San Gonzalo mine is located "beneath the shallow workings of an old mine from the colonial period," according to the company's website.
