Woodfibre Natural Gas Limited, a company proposing a small LNG plant on the former site of Western Forest Product’s pulp mill near Squamish, has applied for an export licence to the National Energy Board (NEB).
Woodfibre is seeking to export a maximum of 2.1 million tonnes of LNG per year.
“Seeing another LNG export licence filed with the federal government shows two things – it further indicates that our LNG has huge promise to deliver the jobs and prosperity that B.C. so richly deserves, but also that it’s right around the corner. In they want to be part of this opportunity, it’s urgent that companies are in the game now,” said Premier Christy Clark, in a press release.
Thus far, the NEB has approved three LNG export applications:
- the Douglas Channel Energy Project has a 20-year licence to export 10 million tones of LNG per year;
- LNG Canada has a 20-year licence to export 24 million tones of LNG per year; and
- Kitimat LNG has a 20-year licence to export 10 million tones of LNG per year.
