Buy Canadian, eh? Most of us make a point of purchasing goods made here

The vast majority of Canadians – 92% – say they make a point of buying goods and products made in this country, according to a new study.

Those surveyed said the main reasons for doing so were to support the local economy and to keep jobs in Canada.

“Even though there are less expensive internationally products items readily available, Canadian consumers are clearly loyal to Canadian brands and merchandise when it comes to their purchase decisions,” said Adrienne Down Coulson, general manager of Ebates Canada, the company behind the study.

“The survey results show us that Canadian consumers do their research and make educated decisions balancing cost savings with supporting the local economy.”

Food products are the biggest item when it comes to buying Canadian, with 87% of those surveyed saying they make a point of buying local.

Canucks are also particularly loyal to Canadian alcohol products, as 46% say they choose to buy beer and 34% report they buy wine made in this country.

We are also loyal when it comes to buying clothing (45%) and furniture (38%).

Men and women have different preferences in terms of the brands and products they make a point of for buying. Forty five per cent of men say they are likely to purchase Canadian beer, while 49% of women make patriotic clothing purchases.
