Canucks are more loyal to their brands of choice than their neighbours to the south, according to the results of a Hotels.com poll released October 16.
In a survey of loyalty programs across many different industries ranging from grocery and drugstore chains to travel services, Hotels.com found that 86% of Canadians participate in a loyalty program, while only 36% of Americans do the same.
"Loyalty programs provide added perks like free products, upgrades, discounts or more from your favourite brands," said Hotels.com travel expert Taylor L. Cole.
"Most of us appreciate something extra in return for our repeat business."
The survey found that grocery and drugstore chains had the highest brand loyalty for Canadians, with 58% of respondents saying they stick with their businesses of choice in those categories. By comparison, only 32% of Americans have this level of loyalty.
The survey did find, however, that American consumers are more loyal than Canadians when it comes to travel programs. While 24% of Americans say they stick to certain airlines or hotel chains, only 15% of Canadians feel the same way.
Other key findings of the survey include:
- 73% of Canadians commit to five loyalty programs or fewer (Americans: 39%);
- free products and services were the number one draw for 67% of Canadians (Americans: 63%); and
- 17% of Canadians belong to an online travel loyalty program (Americans: 24%).
