Products marketed as natural health products, but which Health Canada says contained undeclared prescription drugs that could be harmful, have been yanked from the shelves of Burnaby retailer West Box.

Some of the products were marketed under the Crane brand as natural health products for weight loss. West Box is a retailer located at 1337-4500 Kingsway, Crystal Mall in Burnaby.

One of the weight loss products contains nicotine, and others contain prescription drugs – one of which is banned in Canada – that can have adverse health impacts if used in conjunction with other pharmaceuticals.

“These products may pose serious risks to the health of Canadians,” Health Canada warned in a new release.

According to Health Canada, the products contained prescription drugs that should only be prescribed under medical supervision.

Two of the weight loss products (Crane Beauty Green Algae Complex Tablets and Crane Beauty Green Algae Body Slimming Combination) contained Fluoxetine, which is used to treat depression, bulimia nervosa and obsessive compulsive disorder. It can be fatal if used in combination with antidepressants or antipsychotic drugs, according to Health Canada.

Crane Beauty Green Algae Compound Tablets contained Sibutramine, which is no longer available in Canada due to its association with increased risk of heart attack and stroke. It also contained sildenafil, which can cause low blood pressure when used in combination with other drugs.

Two eye drops were also removed: Santé FX V+ and Santé FX Neo.

Health Canada asks anyone who may have taken any of these products to report any adverse side effects.
