Ikea Canada is planning to open a new customer distribution centre in the Lower Mainland, the company announced July 10.

The 340,000 square-foot centre, which will be located at 7031 York Road in Richmond, is expected to open in April 2018 and will service all four of the retailer’s Alberta and B.C. locations.

“As Ikea continues to grow, we recognize the importance of making the shopping experience more convenient and enjoyable for Canadians,” said Ikea Canada president Marsha Smith.

“Building a stronger distribution network is one of the many ways we are ensuring we meet our customers’ expectations in western Canada.”

The new location will result in shorter delivery times for customers, the company said. As well, it will support 100 new jobs, with hiring beginning in the fall.

Ikea said in 2015 it plans to double its Canadian footprint by 2025 with coast-to-coast expansions. This year, the company plans to open new stores in Halifax and Quebec City.

The company has 12 locations across the country, including those in Coquitlam and Richmond. It has 343 stores in more than 28 countries around the world. The new location will be the company’s third Canadian distribution centre.
