Government paperwork costs the average Canadian $730 a year in fees and time spend filling out forms, according to the Canadian Federation for Independent Business.

Income tax makes up the bulk of that cost, but applying for and renewing driver's licenses and passports and registering vehicles also take their toll.

The CFIB estimates the cost of regulations for individual Canadians totals $10 billion a year. The lobby group has previously estimated regulations cost Canadian businesses $31 billion a year.

According to a poll conducted by Vision Critical for CFIB, 45% of Canadians say that having to comply with government added significant stress to their lives.
