Seaspan Shipyards officially opened a new 7,800-square metre office building in North Vancouver earlier this week.
The new building is home to roughly 390 employees, including engineers, supply chain and procurement staff.
The new office building is located on Pemberton Avenue not far from the company’s existing offices, which were built in the 1950s and 1960s and which the company has outgrown.
The company has been growing in recent years, thanks to a $3.3 billion procurement contract with the federal government to build non-combat ships, including new vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard. That contract led the company to invest $155 million to modernize its shipyards.
The company recently launched the first ship built under that long-term contract – a new Coast Guard fisheries science vessel.
The shipyards currently employ roughly 1,000 workers. Earlier this week, in a Conference Board of Canada Western Business Outlook, the shipbuilding at the Seaspan Shipyards was cited as one of the main reasons for the growth in B.C.’s manufacturing sector.
“Seaspan is a significant part of our community and a major employer in North Vancouver and throughout the Lower Mainland,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, Liberal MP for North Vancouver.
“The opening of its new office further demonstrates Seaspan’s commitment to investing locally and providing more opportunities for years to come.”

“Our investment is further evidence of Seapsan’s commitment to the Nationla Shipbuilding Strategy and our role as Canada’s long-term strategic partner for non-combat vessels.”
