Christmas lights, tree ornaments and holiday wreaths might be coming down but Canadians are still ready to spend, according to a new survey from FedEx Express Canada.

The courier service says 52% of Canadians gave gift cards during the holiday season.

It’s a trend that puts businesses in a position to “keep the registers ringing into the new year when bargain hunters look to find those items still on their holiday wish lists,” FedEx Express Canada president Lisa Lisson said in a statement.

The survey also revealed 77% of respondents who plan to shop after the holidays plan to do so to take advantage of bargains.

But most won’t be redeeming their gift cards solely through online shopping.

Instead, 51% of respondents plan to redeem both online and in-store compared with 8% who plan to redeem their gift cards only through online purchases.

The survey was conducted among 1,569 Canadians from November 28 to December 4.
