The clock is ticking for those who haven’t finished their holiday shopping, but a BMO survey released this morning shows fewer people are cutting things close to the wire than last year.

The survey found only 3% of Canadians consider themselves last-minute shoppers.

“With Canadian families balancing busier schedules more than ever before, it’s no surprise that a few shoppers will be rushing around at the last minute,” said Janet Peddigrew, BMO Bank of Montreal vice-president.

“However, this last-minute rush can often cause people to make impulse decisions and sometimes over-spend on gift-buying.”

Perhaps not surprisingly, the survey found more men than women (38% versus 21%) leave their holiday shopping until December.

Many surveyed said they planned their shopping weeks (26%) or months (68%) in advance.
