The Surrey Board of Trade hosted its third annual Surrey Women in Business Awards luncheon Wednesday recognizing the hard work of Surrey's businesswomen and their contributions to the city.

Winners were announced in five categories.

Kim Russell, director of the Surrey Campus and co-founder of the Canadian Tourism College, received the award in the Entrepreneur category.

The winner of the Professional category was Vivienne Wilke, general manager of finance and technology at the City of Surrey.

Amy Hennessy, community relations manager at Fortis BC, was the winner in the Corporate category.

The award in the Leadership category went to Ellie King, founder of the Royal Canadian Theatre Company.

Kathleen Kennedy-Strath, CEO of the Kinsmen Place Lodge, was honoured in the Not-for-Profit Executive category.

In addition to these five categories, the Surrey Women in Business Community Achievement Award was presented to Bonnie Burnside, manager of special events and communications at Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association.

Burnside was surprised and honoured to receive the award, stating she was proud to work with the people in Surrey's business community.

Nominations were submitted in five categories and judged on the nominee's work in Surrey, business acumen, leadership, balanced lifestyle and community involvement and service.
