A startup that makes bicycle frames from bamboo is among the businesses receiving funding from Telus (TSX:T) under the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) program.

Telus is donating $171,000 to CYBF, which funds new entrepreneurs, including Vancouver startups Grass Frame Works and Kamisand Media Group.

Grass Frame Works makes bamboo bicycle frames and fully assembled bamboo-frame bikes. The frames also include other sustainable materials like hemp fibre and plant-based epoxy.

Kamisand builds websites and provides marketing plans for small and medium-sized companies.

"CYBF is delighted to partner with Telus to help young entrepreneurs succeed while also driving a culture of youth entrepreneurship in Canada," said CYBF chief strategy officer Katrina White.

"This partnership is instrumental in helping us provide the vital tools and support needed to prepare new generations of Canadian entrepreneurs to embrace the challenge involved in realizing their dreams of owning their own business."

CYBF has invested in more than 5,260 young entrepreneurs to create more than 20,800 new jobs.
