Delta's Avcorp Industries (TSX:AVP) announced August 9 that it has signed a purchase contract with the Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) to make tunnel cover assemblies for CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
No value for the contract was provided.
Each tunnel cover assembly consists of several large and complex metal-bonded aerostructures. These tunnel covers act as access covers to the driveshift, which runs between two main rotors in the helicopters.
Avcorp has manufactured parts for Boeing in the past, including wheel-well fairings and wing tip panels for the Next-Generation 737 and cockpit nose enclosure assemblies for CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
"This new contract underscores the importance of our long-standing partnership, which continues to support highly skilled aerospace jobs within Canada," said Avcorp's CEO Mark van Rooij.
Avcorp's press release noted that it was awarded the contract not only because of the quality of its work.
Part of the deal struck when Ottawa awarded U.S. firm Boeing defence and security aerospace contracts required Boeing to make investments in the Canadian economy.
