The British Columbia Innovation Council (BCIC) has a new leader. John Jacobson, former CEO of Monexa Technologies, has been announced as the BCIC's new CEO.

BCIC chairwoman Jill Leversage said Jacobson was chosen for the job because of his track record of identifying new business opportunities and bringing innovative products to market.

"It's an exciting time for B.C.'s technology sector, where jobs are growing at twice the rate of any other in the province," Leversage said. "We look forward to working with John as he helps BCIC execute on its mission of accelerating the commercialization of BC technologies."

The BCIC develops entrepreneurial talent in B.C. and aids in the commercialization of technology.

Jacobson is the former president and CEO of Monexa Technologies, an Internet service pioneer that provides online billing and payment services.

Prior to Monexa, Jacobson worked for Offshore Systems International (OSI Geospatial), MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates (TSX:MDA) and PSC Group.
