With classes cancelled today due to a strike by instructors and support staff, students at the BC Institute of Technology (BCIT) are calling on Premier Christy Clark to resolve the labour impasse at the school.
In an open letter, the BCIT Student Association has called on Clark to negotiate with two unions and "invest" in education at the school.
The letter cites Clark's support of the BC Jobs Plan as a reason the government should work with the unions towards a resolution.
"As British Columbia's premier polytechnic institution, BCIT is essential to the province's success," the letter argues. "If you believe in the development and training of B.C.'s workers, please demonstrate your support by investing in BCIT, [and] giving it the resources it needs to support the future of our great people and province."
BCIT classes were also cancelled on November 19 because of a strike by unionized staff and instructors.
