The City of Vancouver hopes to resolve the conflict between the fast pace of digital and the slow pace of government with its first digital strategy.

Council will vote Tuesday on the strategy, which was released on the City of Vancouver website last week.

Vancouver hopes to engage residents, provide better service, keep track of its wired infrastructure and grow Vancouver's digital economic sector.

New York and Chicago already have digital strategies in place, and Vancouver is looking to those cities for inspiration, according to its digital strategies report.

The strategy lays out a four-year roadmap with nine objectives, including:

  • making more city services available by computer;
  • expanding Wi-Fi throughout the city;
  • starting an incubation company for digital companies;
  • and equip city workers with mobile devices such as smartphones.
