After more than three years without a contract, members of CUPE Local 3338 have reached a tentative agreement with Simon Fraser University.

The deal affects nearly 1,000 clerical and support workers and laboratory assistants and technicians who have been without a deal since March 31, 2010.

The tentative agreement, if ratified by the membership, will last four years. In the first two years of the contract, the government’s net-zero mandate will be honoured. The second half of the deal includes an annual 2% raise.

Last October, CUPE 3338 served SFU with a strike notice. The two parties had failed to reach a deal after two years of negotiations. For the past eight months, CUPE 3338 members engaged in rotating strike action, which included overtime bans, political campaigns and full shutdowns of services at all three SFU campuses.

Ross Idler, CUPE national servicing representative, told Business in Vancouver that he expects the deal to be ratified in the coming weeks, once a series of information meeting to educate its membership are held.
