BC physicians continue to buy in to a program designed to reduce paperwork for doctors and improve their access to patient and clinical information.

One year ago, Business in Vancouver reported that 40% of B.C.?s 6,000 physicians (2,400) were using the electronic medical records (EMR) system being promoted by the BC Ministry of Health.

One year later, the ministry reports 3,300 doctors in B.C. (60%) are now using the system.

EMRs give doctors quicker access to patient records and clinical information. The push to get doctors in B.C. to adopt EMRs was part of a $219 million investment in e-Health in B.C. over several years

The province plans to spend another $43 million on the program between 2011 and 2013.

Under the program, physicians that adopt EMRs are reimbursed up to 70% of the costs to implement it. ?
