One-quarter of e-commerce around the world in the final quarter of 2013 was conducted on mobile devices, according to technology blog Techvibes.
The data – compiled by Monetate, a company that provides cloud-based technology for online marketers – showed that this figure represents an increase of 3% compared with the third quarter of 2013. Of this, tablets accounted for two-thirds while smartphones comprised the balance of all mobile business transactions.
The average amount spent on an online purchase on a mobile device is higher on average than those on PCs. Tablet-based e-commerce sales average around $139 while PC sales generate about $136 per order on average. For smartphones specifically, $114 is spent on the average order.
Over half of all tablet-based online sales were made on Apple iPads.
