Vancouver startup accelerator GrowLab yesterday announced the five new companies that have been selected to enter its three-month program.
Teams from around the world applied to join GrowLab to work on a range of products and applications.
Mike Edwards, GrowLab’s executive director, said, “The quality of applications were really impressive.
“There are definitely some exciting things happening right now and the competition was intense. It was an extremely hard decision to narrow it down to the selected five.”
With guidance from GrowLab founders Debbie Landa (Dealmaker Media), Jason Bailey (East Side Games), Boris Wertz (W Media Ventures), Len Brody (Clarity Digital Group) and their network of mentors, companies will work towards an invitation-only Demo Day event.
At this event the companies will pitch to a group of investors and kick off the third annual Grow Conference, which is scheduled to take place August 22 to 24.
In addition to the demo day event, GrowLab will host an accelerator symposium where executive directors from incubator and accelerator programs from across the globe will come together to discuss best practices employed to build functioning startup communities, foster entrepreneurial success and manage growth within the sector.
GrowLab’s spring 2012 cohort members are:
- Cinecoup – feature film creation, financing and distribution;
- BlueBat – BlueBox, a social engine for game developers;
- Food.ee – a meal delivery service;
- Skyscrpr – facilitating blogger ad sales; and
- Wantering – facilitating finding and buying merchandise from fashion blogs and curation networks.
