Vancouver’s Hootsuite has acquired uberVU, an American company that specializes in social media analytics for business.
The company did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition.
Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, uberVU gathers and analyzes data from blogs, forums and social media sites to provide business intelligence.
According to Hootsuite, uberVU has more 200 customers, including Fujitsu, S.C. Johnson, and NBC.
“We’ve seen that single-purpose social media monitoring tools frustrate users by making it difficult to put data to use and turn insight into action,” Hootsuite CEO Ryan Holmes said in a blog post.
“By bringing uberVU on board, HootSuite is adding powerful analytics capabilities to our battle-tested engagement platform. This is a direct response to feedback from HootSuite customers and has accelerated our existing analytics plan.”
This is not Hootsuite’s first acquisition. In September 2012, the Vancouver company also bought a competitor, Seesmic – a move aimed at beefing up Hootsuite’s enterprise cutomer base. In 2011, it acquired Geotoko, which used geolocation for location-based marketing.
Hootsuite is flush with cash, having concluded a $165 million series B financial raise through Insight Venture Partners and its partners, Accel Partners and OMERS Ventures.
